At school we had a choice of woodwork or metalwork I picked the dirty one. Now the house is finished I have to get serious about woodwork, always been a model builder, and model railways so over this past winter have decided to have a workshop. Have got model making sanders and bandsaw but no big boys toys, time for a play Have started small on some cutting boards, have got three different ones cut out and ready for some machines coming next week, also got some nice wood, Walnut, Wenge, Sycamore, Red ceder, and Purpleheart, already had Cherry, Apple and Pear from a year or so back, also going to make a "River Table" have got some wavy (Live) edged Cherry 70cmx160cm, so busy time ahead.

Back in school I was lucky to have several choices and had a go at all of them. Wood, metal, varied crafts, and radio electronics. I have made extensive use of all the skills I picked up.
It sounds like you have nailed one of the biggest problems facing a woodworker.............finding sound, dry, interesting wood to use. I still have some teak and mahogany from my boatbuilding days but sadly, I don't really like teak. I dislike the colour, and mahogany dust is toxic. I thought I might use it for some elaborate bird houses and outdoor doodaws but so far this renovation has taken up all my time and energy. Looking forward to idle retirement.

Yes finding things has been difficult I will put a list up so may save someone time, there is a few wood supplies but they are mainly for woodturning so small blanks. Wood Planks. Marechaux SAS Machines. Probois Machineoutils HBM Machines Damatomachine Optimachines. Tool & Fittings. Dieter Schmid Fine Tools Metiers Passions. If anyone knows of other wood suppliers I would be grateful, just been offered a large plank of "Burr" Elm at 12€ a kilo it weighs 64Kgs
