I’ve just cancelled the last of the 3 hotels plus Eurotunnel that we’d booked for our drive down to the Gard over Easter for a very welcome stay at our apartment, catching up with friends and neighbours plus eating plenty of local asparagus etc.
Really feeling down about it. Our last visit was nearly a year ago, early June, when temperatures were unseasonably high, 40C, and my heart couldn’t cope; we did the short walk into our little town each morning while it was cool for food shopping and a coffee etc, then I had to retreat to our bedroom which has aircon and I could cope. We flew home about 4 weeks early.
The previous visit was in late autumn 2021, when my husband spent 11 days in hospital and eventually, when declared well enough, had to be flown home by our travel insurance company with a doctor by his side giving him oxygen when necessary, and who stayed at our home with us until he felt he could leave my husband.
So we were really looking forward to a spending time at our apartment - I was going to sort out the new tax firm while there, too.
Yesterday our GP advised my husband mot to travel, as she suspects that he has heart failure, and has requested an appointment with a cardiologist and an echocardiogram. I guess the wait will depend on how strongly our GP put in her request.

Oh Gigi, how sad both about your husband's health and the holiday. Given the junior doctors strike I suspect getting a cardiologist appt won't be easy. If you can afford it I would go private, the sooner the better. I have onset heart failure and have annual echocardiograms. They're quite quick and non intrusive, essentially a doppler image of the heart. 10 minutes at most. Good luck to both of you.

So sorry to hear this, it’s such a bummer when life gets in the way of looked forward to plans. Hopefully you’ll get here when your husband is better. I had serious heart failure a few years ago and once they had sorted me out on a regime of medication I recovered really well, took a few weeks though to get over the tiredness…wishing him all the best…

Sad that you have had to cancel your arrangements for a visit but every best wish to your husband for a quick diagnosis and medical response.

Really feeling down about it. Such a shame on both counts. How worrying for you. Hope your husband soon gets the attention he needs. Agree with mangetout about going private if you can.

Thank you so much for your kind messages, i was feeling very down after the news and they helped.
Now we’ll wait to hear from the hospital, hoping that it won’t be very long, though the doctors’ strike next week won’t help.
Thank you again everyone; I’ll update this when we hear more.
