So sorry to hear your news. But thank goodness the problem was picked up before you travelled or it may have been exacerbated. Hoping your husband gets a speedy resolution and you can enjoy your appartment again soon.

I too am sorry to hear that you have had to put off your trip to France. It was very sensible though in view of your doctor's concerns about your husband's health. The last thing you want is to be far away from your boys again and for your husband to have to endure another longish spell in hospital. I hope his problem is quickly sorted and you can enjoy some time away in your apartment before the weather gets too hot.

Thank you very much for your kind words.
I’m very pleased that we got our hotels cancelled as I would have had to do so today - my husband had a TIA this morning, very evident from his tries at speaking when I went down to breakfast, so rang 999 immediately, an ambulance soon arrived and he was with the stroke team in under an hour after I knew about the problem.
He had a CT scan and also of his neck to check that there were no blockages. His statin was changed, aspirin added back again in addition to the blood thinner he takes already, and was taken to a ward for a day or two, they think, which is where I’ve spent the day, just got home. Luckily our son and DIL live close by, so have taken me to the hospital and back as needed.
So quite a dramatic couple of days!

It's just as well you didn't travel. I wish you all the best, he's in the right place and it sounds like the service is working well. Try to get some sleep, difficult I know. Let us know how he gets on in the coming days. We'll all be thinking of you both.

Oh Gigi, you must have been so relieved that this didn’t happen during your journey. I am glad your husband is receiving good care, and hope he will soon be home.

You must be feeling very thankful that you took your first Dr's advice and didn't travel. Wishing you both well. The support of your family locally must be a great relief.

Thank you for your kind messages - yes, it would have been awful if we’d crossed and he was in hospital in France. Bad though it was when he was in hospital in Nîmes for 11 days, at least I was returning to our own apartment each evening and not a hotel room.
The doctor has just been round, said how good it was that he got to hospital so quickly so could be treated immediately. She thinks he can probably go home today but she’s hoping that a speech therapist can see him first. His speech is back to normal, but it’s reassuring that he might see one.
We won’t be travelling to the Gard until September - we bought the apartment for autumn, winter and spring, never visit during the heat of the summer. Last September I was meant to be having a knee replacement but it was postponed, I had it in January, so during those months we couldn’t travel. Fingers well and truly crossed!
Actually, perhaps I’ll fly down on my own, measure the apartment for the new tax form and get together with friends, although not put the apartment on the market as planned.

Thank you too, Amanda.
Well, he’s home! He was checked out by the doctor, assessed for balance etc by a physio and an occupational therapist/speech therapist. a couple of his drugs have been changed and he’s not to drive for 4 weeks. He fell asleep as soon as we arrived home and it’s lively to have him back so soon!
Thank you for your support, it helped.
