www.bbc.com/news/business-65833619Interesting reading. I don't recognise many of those prices, but here in France it seems more expensive than elsewhere.... No mention of sausages....

I don't know how they got their comparison prices, but I pay way less than that for fresh milk.

Actually after my comment, as no quantities are listed (I think), I wondered if the comparison is for 4 pints, which I think is a common size in the UK. I agree about your pricing of a litre.

I wonder where the prices for France were taken from .. they are/appear to be way over what we pay. Though, as no quantities are given, it is impossible to compute.
A shambles of a survey as it is so very vague. It would be of interest if it was more accurately defined.
Even the exchange rate they used comes into play.

‘ British households' budgets are being squeezed as overall food prices remain 19% higher than a year ago.‘
No sympathy for self inflicted injuries.
’No mention of sausages....’
think yourself lucky that you don’t have to eat what passes as a sauapsage round these parts.

I too struggled to relate to a number of the prices - toothpaste, washing detergent. I wonder how they compared the price of cheese since this is a product highly dependent on shipping costs. So if it is Cheddar (now harder to find in much of the EU) no wonder some of the prices. If it is just some generic locally produced cheese, did they take the ripening period into account? There is a world of difference between 6 week old Brie and 12 month aged Cheddar.
But overall, is France more expensive than other countries? Too long out of the UK to make a judgement but compared to Germany I would say that, yes, it is more expensive and even that is based on experience of 10 years ago and more.

I found it interesting that the survey specifically excluded Lidl & Aldi. We use Lidl first, and for anything they don't have we then try Carrefour or Intermarche for the remainder. This strategy works well for us and saves money. Having said that, we are blessed with having all the majour players within a short distance of each other.

Why would anyone want to compare food prices in differing countries , pure politics " look , our prices are cheaper than theirs" Prices differ from one part of the country to another . From one village to another. Groceries are more expensive in our local supermarket , but then you don't have to pay the diesel to go to the big supermarket in town . Comparing apples to pears!!

Never mind the price. We have just found a branch of Liddle’s in Portugal. Tad heavy on pre packed processed stuff but it looks decidedly less risky than most of the so called food stuffs that I have encountered recently.

One litre demi-ecremé UHT milk in Lidl France two days ago was 99c. In Lidl UK today 89p.
