Various health issues and the COVID situation have caused me to pause, last year I booked and cancelled so many trips both to France and to visit elderly relatives in Spain, that I’ve decided to leave it until the last minute this time still awaiting call from GP like most people because I’ve not done anything or been anywhere for ages if there’s a slight hike in prices I’ll pay.

It’s fairly obvious why people have only just bought tickets but think some /many of them have perhaps always been lucky enough to book travel months ahead and perhaps have never realized that if you do so at the last minute you will almost inevitably pay top dollar, Covid or not. Around fifteen year ago I paid something like £300 for a one way ticket with Easyjet up to Gatwick because I had absolutely no choice but to book with them on the day of travel….. Anyhow by way of comparison in the wake of last nights announcement I booked a UK and return ticket with BA for early September. I was standing by for a bit of a when I went on-line but it turned out the prices were pretty much in line with what I’ve seen in previous years in the period just after the summer holiday rush….there was certainly no sign of meaningful price hike.

First class train ticket with additional insurance La Souterraine to Paris (avec carte advantage senior) 15€45 CDG > EDI Air France 65€ I was budgeting for >£150 return trips 10 years ago. Btw. Air France are introducing a 49€ / year senior card saving you up to 30% on tickets.
