We have a lamp with a dimming switch, the lamp has stopped working. I was just going to dump the bits and bobs in the box and join up the wires and plug it in she is of the opinion that that will not work. Who is right.

230 V dimmer with the usual triacs (special semiconductor) inside? What blew up? Bulbs, dimmer, fuse/disjoncteur? Bulb defective (resistance measurement? The three little bulbs: 230 V or low voltage?

I just joined the wires up without the dimmer control box one bulb blew up but took one of the glass shades with it. Had to vacum the floor she said I told you so. The light was not cheap off to the dump tomorrow. If you click the picture you can see the broken shade.
