A really banal accident. He looked desolate in the ambulance. Felt for him. And encore another accident and rider (Steff Cras) out due to a spectator.

Bad news about Mark Cavendish. Sad end to a great career.

Very sad to end like that. I only saw shots of him on the road, being helped by team members. His earlier second place could easily have been a win except for a gear problem during the last stage of the sprint. It brought back memories as he surged past all the other sprinters, including Philpsen, and looked like a winner.

Watching the tour on ITV4 but a bit saddened as this year the ITV team are not really describing the places the tour are passing e.g for just over 5 years we used to live minutes away from Brantome and if we hadn't known this beautiful Dordogne town, we would have been wondering what the town was the tour was passing through. The wife thought she heard it mentioned but there are several things the commentators could have mentioned about the town and area.

There are great descriptions of everything you are seeing by Frank Fernand (IIRC).

I can remember driving up the Puy de Dome in the early 80s, it was a surprise yesterday to see a railway running up on checking on Wiki it was not the first one either, happy days.

We were to told to buy a new receiver that would get us the stations back, sadly it didn't. Back in the early 90's we could only receive French TV as Sky had not arrived back then (that time watching only French TV on occasion helped the kids but put me to sleep. When a friend, a Sky engineer came for a holiday bringing a large dish and a sky receiver as payment for his stay, OK it was only Analogue back then but what joy it was being able to get the news from the old country, see some decent comedies and BBC plays. ITV4 in the past gave really good descriptions on the Tour but..............
