According to Enclopedia Britannica:
artillery, in military science, crew-served big guns, howitzers, or mortars having a calibre greater than that of small arms, or infantry weapons. Rocket launchers are also commonly categorized as artillery, since rockets perform much the same function as artillery projectiles, but the term artillery is more properly limited to large gun-type weapons using an exploding propellant charge to shoot a projectile along an unpowered trajectory.
one wonders what they used for ammunition in the Royal Horse Artillery

I had a friend who went to another school who told me that there was a boy at his school called Lucky Me.
Looks like they used cows before horses. Come to that were there any Royal Cows?

This forum has to be the worst ever for anyone looking for useful information on life in France. They will just find nonsense like this. What is the weather like which is full of comments on the weather in the UK. Comments from some silly woman regarding what she has bought from Waitrose. Previous incarnations of this forum were useful to newcomers. It is now just a collection of very sad people, most of whom do not even seem to live in France. Best wishes from Toulouse.

You don't have to be serious all the time. Perhaps some people do. Lighten up. P. S. If you go to Board index there are 13 sections in Living in France and lots of other useful stuff.

I don't think he quite understands the mindset that can bounce from artillery to odd names. Our dimension hopping member confuses many others but there's no need to slag off the forum if you don't understand it. At least here they don't block your account with no reason given. It happens elsewhere until there's no one left but those who like to discuss wallpaper patterns.

I don’t see a world of difference between horse artillery and cow artillery, other than one can run faster than the other.
