And some Brit tourists had the gall to moan about the comfort of the transport used to drive them to safety.
Incredibly brave pilots knowingly taking such risks.

Very sad but finally some media reporting which isn’t just focusing on how British tourists are being affected!

Good point. Most of the "media" reporting is about Brits being deprived of their holidays. I heard one this morning moaning about losing their luggage apart from the clothes they stood up in. Poor dear. Not a word about the locals who lose their homes and everything else.
Now the UK government is stressing that people should be sure to have good travel insurance, instead of advising people to use common sense and stop boarding flights to the affected areas. Typical. Only concerned about the money.

Very sad indeed.
When we had a forest fire nearby last year I commented on the skill of these guys (and those on the ground). We had a whole hill face burned out except for one habitation in the middle that suffered no more damage than blistered paint. That is skill indeed and such low level precision involves much bravery.

Some years ago I watched for several hours, from my campsite pitch, a relay of water bombers loading water from Lac Salagou. Very impressive piloting.

Now the UK government is stressing that people should be sure to have good travel insurance, instead of advising people to use common sense and stop boarding flights to the affected areas. Typical. Only concerned about the money. The holiday firms stopped flights some days ago. However your "Sun" like reaction (which I thought better of you) seems to ignore a few important facts: The vast majority of those being evacuated arrived before the fires broke out. Until the companies stop shipping people in, or the government issues a do not travel advice, anyone choosing not to fly would have been likely to lose their money paid on their holiday - which for a family of 4 could easily be in the several thousand pounds region. I know you could not afford to lose that sort of money and neither can many of them. But perhaps most importantly, Rhodes island is actually quite a big place (80km x 38km)*. The fires - catastrophic though they are - affect a very small part of the island. The main airport is miles away from the affected area. * For comparison the Isle of Wight is about 35km x 20km and I doubt if a fire broke out to the South of the Island, you would be calling for the ferries to be halted.
