Our Bosch battery operated hedge trimmer stopped working on Monday. It just suddenly stopped, tried changing batteries, no change. left it for an hour, it just started for about 2 seconds then stopped again. Checked the warranty on it which was for 2 years, but expires in October. Went on Bosch services, filled out the form for repairing. Dropped it in our local supermarket Point Relai on Tuesday. Today, it was delivered to our house, repaired and working. How is that for service? The delivery noted stated: Reparation Garantie 1 Module electronique 1 Moteur a courant continu 1 Transport garantie: reparation 7 Main d oeuvre

Value for money. And after the Garantie runs out you will most likely find that spares will be easily available for self repair.

Sometimes customer care can be exceptional here. I was reading on the local FB site about someone returning an electric grass cutter that went faulty expecting it to be replaced but apparently there is a new EU directive that says they must try and repair the item first. Now if that's true where is garbo. 😃

I had a problem with my "Metabo" drill, the chuck started to wobble, rang the UK number, they got in contact with the French, they gave me an address here sent it away, in a few days it was returned with a new chuck fitted, very pleased, have been less pleased with Bosch in the past.

Most of my electric hand tools are Bosch , they have always been a good buy . The last drill I bought , the batterie failed but was replaced immediatly via Leroy Merlin , excellent service.

I was reading on the local FB site about someone returning an electric grass cutter that went faulty expecting it to be replaced but apparently there is a new EU directive that says they must try and repair the item first. Now if that's true where is garbo. 😃 My memory is a bit fuzzy on this scenario but I think you might have it a bit muddled. I think the EU regs are often different to the way the French carry them out. I bought a fridge freezer that was defective straight out of the box and the retailer (Carrefour) refused to replace it. The insisted their only responsibility was to attempt a repair. Of course Carrefour do not have a repair facility of their own but send it to a third party contractor. Bottom line: it took three months of failed attempts at repairs for me to get angry enough to take it into their foyer and raise hell until I got a full refund. Letters of complaint to the regional boss were never responded to. Never buy a major appliance from a supermarket. Although EU law is sensible and generally works in our favour, when a supermarket buys in quantity from an appliance distributor to get a lower price, the route to that extra discount is by the supermarket taking on the responsibility of warranty claims. This is a weak link between the manufacturers and the consumer.

I might have that wrong it was on FB. I did return a cheap bench saw that I managed to burn out the motor in under a year. Took it back to Weldon they looked at it and said probably motor and contacted the distributor who said they have a new model out now and offered a full refund or I pay the extra for the new one. Took the money back. Will buy a better make for the next renovation.
