Not being a plumber, does anyone know if/how i can break into this downpipe to insert another smaller pipe for the waste from a kitchen sink/dishwasher?

The price for your size 100x40 a 45° will be more reasonable. However I would cut the 100 pipe, insert a 100x40 - 45° Y piece and rejoin the 100 pipe with a 100 manchon with the inside stop ground off so that it slides all the way up the pipe. Assemble the lot dry, mark in position for rotation and insert length, then glue and assemble to the marks.

I agree with this , you can buy a manchon without stop for €1.90 in most DIY shops , but cut a slice of the pipe that you want to connect to, and take with you when buying , differing makes of pipe have very small differences in diameter and can be difficult to seal.

While you are on the subject of toilet pipes. We had an issue with a toilet waste pipe we had never come across before. The house has an old septic tank with the exit connected to the mains drains. Sometimes the toilet would be slow at empting after flushing and gurgled, I tried venting the system with an exit pipe on the outside wall. In the end air was being trapped in the pipe, drilled a hole in the 100 mil pipe and you heard the air escape. Fitted an air vent problem solved. ( Clapet equilibreur de pression.)

You've a trap on the toilet & the old septic tank is also acting as a trap. Two traps on the same line invariably gives the problem you've experienced.

These are two that I did. Thankfully I had enough play. The first for the toilet in my workshop View AttachmentThe second for the new bathroom View Attachment(The lower tee). You can see the play I had in this one. The copper pipe work and the top tee will eventually go. Nice work LP !
