While sat outside with DW enjoying the peace and quite, with a few cold ones as you do, a movement caught my eye across the lane and behind our Chestnut tree, I knew it was a Marten but we both just watched it, it crawled under the fence and started to walk across the lawn towards us, a good thirty meters away, but it didn't stop, when it was at three meters I just said in a soft voice, " hello little fellow, what are you doing here?" it then stopped, it didn't reply it turn slowly and walked around to the rear of the house, probably to the orchard, checked my book and it was a Pine Marten, the Beech Marten has a white front, so now I will think bleached front is a Beech Marten.

Very rewarding for you and thanks for the description. We have been excited by our resident hedgehog which appears at different points in the garden most evenings while we are sitting quietly, reading and having a sunset drink. Our dog has come to accept it as a friendly beast. Of course it didn’t answer you; it probably only understands French.
