We’re going to garage tomorrow to trade in VW Golf and buying a new car. We’re getting all documentation in place and OH now tells me he can’t find the carte grise for thé Vw. I’m truly ready to throttle him given all the crap I’ve had to put up with on the new car. The garage took a copy of the carte grise. Is there likely to be a problem if the original carte grise is now missing?

If the garage took a photocopy of the CG they may still have the origional or you still have it and your, well not you because for the first time ever your showing an aggressive mode. ☺ It could be amongst the paperwork and you will find it later. You can apply for a duplicate. Throttling your OH is not the answer for various reasons. 1. If your successful you could end up in prison. 2. After you release you might be expelled from France. 3. You still have to get a new CG.

Don't you have a wallet somewhere containing your Carte Grise and Insurance & suchlike that you take everywhere with you when in the car? Glove box? Behind sun visor? Compost heap? (OH's name for my desk) As it's a trade-in, I'm sure the dealer would want the original CG - it sounds like a trip to your sub prefecture to order a duplicate. R e l a x - and breathe deeply.. Good luck! Nutty

Still in the photocopier at the garage. Brings to mind when I lost my card vital. It turned up at the dentist’s a couple of months after I had replaced it with a new one. (This was after the staff at the dental surgery had assured me that it was not on the premises when I retraced my steps at the time)

Found it. OH moved it into another storage area and had forgotten about it. As usual it was a “putting it somewhere safe” action. We arrived at the garage too early so parked up nearby to wait. As usual, OH starts opening and closing bits and pieces in the car and voila it appeared. I am still ready to throttle him - I was up at 2.30 this morning going through trouser pockets in case he’d put them there by mistake. Mind you, I hadn’t realised until then just how many pairs of jeans he had.

As an aside, it doesn’t look to difficult to order a new carte grise online if it’s been lost or stolen.

He’s now got the joy of trying to understand the new car - apparently you can download the handbook when the car is stationary. Me, I’m going swimming to chill out!

These things happen - I'm waiting for the axe to descend as I inadvertently cut down a climbing bit of greenery that I didn't like the look of yesterday. The silence is deafening..
