I thought it was very good, I think we have all shared similar experiences, easier for those of us here pre B, but the couple with a gite 1.1Million euros for the house and estate, why? its too big, ok while they are relative fit and healthy but thats not guaranteed to last, and all having to work for a living not easy in France, just another Covid type restriction thats your income gone for months at a time, I feel very fortunate that we only have an acre, and on government pensions, so dont have to worry too much about money.

Someone who knows that Nicola Parker person would be doing her a favour teaching her the words 'Bonjour' and 'Merci'. Whatever has happened to basic politeness in the UK?

I feel very fortunate that we only have an acre Good heavens, we only have 1/4 of that and sometimes find that it's more than enough.

Whatever has happened to basic politeness in the UK? We had a small specialised shop in the UK 30 years ago and we adopted the French way of saying 'Hello' 'Good morning' or whatever to everyone coming in .. the vast majority of customers loved it, some were a bit taken aback and some positively shifty about being addressed - we learnt to watch out for those ones

I thought their was an attitude problem vis a vis learning the language "I'm dyslexic I can't possibly learn the language. He learnt to speak english didn't he? The other language hurdle was using fluency or fluent without definig what fluency is, if it's being able to speak like a native then ,Imo , you've lost in advance.Fluency, for me,means being able to speak and reply to questions reasonably continuously you don't need to have an enormous vocabulary to be fluent. The other hurdle,is speaking english at home, which is what I would expect from British couples. However it blocks or perpetuates the I can't learn another language. I would agree that having a load of land will become a burden,as for how much they spent thats up to them., not what I would have done, but I think €80000.00 is way over priced😀

I'm dyslexic I can't possibly learn the language. I have a friend in this position. He spent a lot of money buying recommended course materials before coming over but gave up early on because he was overwhelmed with all the reading and writing necessary. Spoken French is the most important for day to day use and the Michel Thomas courses have been great for this. But not sure this would help him with the post-Brexit language tests.

There are 6 levels of proficiency, as follows.
A1 – Breakthrough (or beginner) A2 – Waystage (or elementary) B1 – Threshold (or intermediate) B2 – Vantage (or upper intermediate) C1 – Effective Operational Proficiency (or advanced) C2 – Mastery (or proficiency)

I had one of those epiphany moments maybe 10 years ago when a stranger stopped me in the street to ask me a question. I understood him the first time around - and I was able to reply - and my questioner understood my reply first time also.
I walked home smiling after that!

Not a bad programme. Not as cringingly embarassing as some. Some odd comments. French workers stop at midday until two and then can't work because they are drunk.

Easy to spot when one is well past retirement age, not always so easy for those about 50 or so, especially if they have had relatively trouble free lives.
