About ten days ago I stupidly crashed my fairly new Stiga ride on mower and bent a steering link so one wheel was correctly aligned and the other had about 15 degrees toe out. I dismantled the relevant steering mechanism and studied the badly buckled link. If I was in UK I knew how to bend it back using my workshop tools but here I do not even have a decent vice. Our neighbour was on holiday so I could not take advantage of his workshop. I decided to take it to Brico where a very pleasant manager took it from me but explained his best worker was on holiday until the following Monday. I checked on the Tuesday and the worker told me he could do it in the next few days and to come back on Saturday. As arranged I went back on Saturday morning and he presented me with the link bent back into the correct shape. He gave me a slip of paper to take to the checkout. Naturally I looked at the paper and could only see a simple code followed by OK. At the checkout I was allowed to pass through. NO PAYMENT! My machine is now fully functional. Thank you Brico staff.

Our forums are full of stories of bad service in France and it is good to get a good service story to restore the balance.

Last week our train back from Switzerland was delayed which meant we missed our connection back to the town we had set out from and left our car at (secure and free of charge). SNCF booked us a decent overnight hotel very near to Montparnasse station which they paid for and provided us with a food box. No complaint’s whatsoever but then again have never found any serious problems with customer service anyway…..

That’s what I used while the mower was on bricks with one wheel missing. It is in fact easier to drive on the road than to mow our “lawn” with chicanes of huge rocks and hundreds of mole hills. I have promised myself to avoid the too narrow section that fooled me last time. My only excuse was that it was very hot and I was rushing.

My son and family moved to Zurich earlier this year and we have travelled twice now by car. Seven hours from us but a much pleasanter journey than travelling to Calais, which is about the same distance.

We stayed in Lausanne on lake Geneva for a night and then took the train up to a hotel near Zermatt near the Italian border to see the Matterhorn. Have always wanted to see it since childhood as parents had a picture of it on the wall! It certainly lived up to expectations and another bucket list item ticked off ! 🙂🙂⛰️⛰️

That was excellent service Lurcher, when I saw the title of your post I feared the worse...
We have had two experiences this summer with French tradespeople and on both occasions they exceeded our expectations, one was a hedging contractor who had been in January to cut our laurel hedge but could not finish because the neighbouring field had a crop growing and he could not use his tractor, he negotiated with the farmer and returned in late July to finish the work, he also cut the new growth since January at no extra charge, we also had our fosse emptied, the machine that did the work must of cost a fortune, he could not speak a word of English (why should he) but we conversed and negotiated the technicalities of emptying the main 4000l tank plus he inspected our grey water pump tank and then took the lids of our sand filter tank and gave us a certificate (it was last emptied in early 2009), he then re-filled the fosse tank with water, all for €260, bargain.

A few years ago I hit a concrete bollard in her old Bmw and broke the alloy wheel and runed the tyre. Bricomarche are normally very good.

That certainly was a bargain. I pay the same twice a year just to empty my 3000 litre fosse etanche with no refill (naturally), no inspection, and no certificate.
