Getting old and need a room in an old age home. I just checked one out where we used to live in the UK. Assuming you have dimentia possibly spelt wrong and thats not because of dimentia 2200 minimum per week but it does include entertainment not sure though if you have dimentia entertainment would be of interest. Who other than vic or PE can afford to pay out 2200 per week.

Who can afford that. Not too sure how you can justify it. Care workers get paid peanuts.

Like you Misty, I’ll stick with rooms at the Ritz.

There is care fees 'cap' coming in 2025 set at £86K but given that Labour will likely be in power it's possible that may change.

Like you Misty, I’ll stick with rooms at the Ritz. Ibis would be cheaper and you can eat as much as you want for breakfast, I have not been in the ritz but i would be suprised if they had the same policy.

Care workers get paid peanuts. So unfair when good care makes a world of difference to quality of life for the residents, especially those with dementia. I'll be getting a ticket to Switzerland rather than go into residential care. If able to choose.

My MIL moved to a care home at Norwich and was one of those who paid a higher rate - council residents were subsidised by her and a few others, as the council had set a cap.
Meals could be taken in the communal dining room, although each little apartment had a small kitchen - we made sure that MIL didn’t have cooking facilities, as she wasn’t very steady. She just had a kettle so she could make her beloved cups of tea. We had “I like a nice cup of tea in the morning……….” playing as we left the crematorium, with everyone laughing, as it was the most suitable song I could think of for her.
There was the occasional game of bingo or a sing-song. One member of staff came from the Sheffield area, so she knew that one accent. She was very happy there, moved down when her other set of grandchildren were still youngish, so enjoyed seeing them regularly.

It is sadly very expensive to have a good standard of care. My mum has been in a care home now for 3 months at £1700 per week. Her life savings are dwindling rapidly and her flat in an over 55's purpose built is up for sale at £100k less than she paid, which apparently is the re-sale market price. At the moment the market is completely dead in the UK. (I know because I am also trying to sell a flat). She couldn't manage anymore on her own and having carers in 4 times a day as well as the worry of her falling and waiting for hours for an ambulance (which had previously happened) was just too much. She now has care when she needs it and is being looked after very well and is having a better quality of life and gets to spend more time with my sisters. We wish that cap would come in sooner though, because I don't know what will happen when her money runs out. Being of the generation she is, she worries about not leaving any money to her children. We just want her to spend the remainder of her life happier and healthier than she was on her own.

For 2200 a week I would be looking at a cruise ship. Food, entertainment, and medical facilities to hand.

Here in France , after a little research , the maximum that is paid per month is €1800 and that is before any subsidies are applied for those that cannot pay. I will research further. After research ,the average in France is €2004 per month , the price depending on where the EHPAD is situated ( is related to the house price in the area) But there are also various subsidies that can be applied for to decrease the price.

But there are also various subsidies that can be applied for to decrease the price. I had to provide a financial breakdown of income etc for an elderly friend's application to a Nursing Home here in Morbihan. The cost came down to 2670€ per month with help potentially available if my friend could not pay all the cost. Fortunately with her pensions from the UK and France she could .. just. This was a public EHPAD and not a private establishment.

Currently paying almost £6k per month for 100 year old mother in residential care home. She’s currently stuck in hospital due to delays in tests needed thanks to the doctors strike. Am currently in appeal stage with nhs for continuing health care funding - like trying to get blood out of a stone. Bullying manager tried to explain my mother’s breathing problems while she was sleeping as due to “dreaming”. Doctor said it’s more likely to be due to arterial fibrillation, which was recently diagnosed with!
