the supermarket in town are trying to sell about 2 or 3 kg of kindling for £5. Not exactly flying of the shelves.

We buy dry logs but store them in an open barn for about a year before using them About 3 years ago, we had a tree cut down in the garden and then sawn up in sections.. The problem is that the logs are all rock hard.. I've tried splitting them with no joy so far.. To paraphrase that quote from "Jaws" - I think I'm going to need a bigger axe! If the current fine weather holds, I think it will be a couple of weeks at least before I light it this year.

I guess you have now learned that splitting is easier earlier rather than later. Oak in particular goes very much more difficult as it dries out. I used to live in a centuries old oak framed house. Totally impossible to drive any sort of nail into it. If I wanted to hang something from a beam it had to be drilled and rawlplugged.

I guess you have now learned that splitting is easier earlier rather than later. I have now! My axe just bounces off the end of the log. Yes, we had an old B&W cottage in England as well and the old original timbers were like iron..

I just did a search locally on Leboncoin bois chauffage and put in your region or post code. Do not pay in advance or send money to a company you have never heard of. He was just 4klms away viewed the wood at 11am delivered by 16hr.
