That's costly. How thick are those planks?

Local farm eight hundred yards from my house. Five steer of oak at seventy euros a steer’ delivered. Trailer be left at the gate and phone him once unloaded. Not the best deal but!

If you have trouble splitting logs due to them having dried out you can saw them in 2 and split the end where it has been cut - generally a lot easier. I have hired hydraulic splitters and they work well but I find you need 2 people = one to put the logs in place and one to operate the machine, I also have an axe that is half axe, half heavy hammer with nylon type shaft - works better than normal axe.

I have an electro-hydraulic splitter and the comment about needing 2 people strikes a chord (corde?) with me. I manage to load the thing on my own but need a third hand. For some absurd reason there are two levers to operate to get the thing to split a log. They are so far apart you have to use both hands. A third hand is needed to steady the log from falling off as the blade approaches the log. I don't think much of the so-called designers these days.
I am still trying to design some sort of attachment to operate one of the levers by foot control.

I have used a tractor driven hydraulic splitter for years and had to rearrange the control so that it could be used with one hand , all to do with safety . I had a cone splitter for many years before , but that was a death trap and they have been banned since.

Using my tractor driven splitter I have found that the top bar that halts the raising of the knife can also be used to lower the knife. So holding the log in place with one hand I can lower the knife with the other hand by lifting the top stop bar. The side frames that were designed to hold the log have since been knackered by lowering the knife and getting the slide bracket caught on the frame.

I am still trying to design some sort of attachment to operate one of the levers by foot control. Take a bar of some sort just wider than levers when extended. Piece of string/chain attached to lever handles & ends of bar so bar rests a few inches above floor. Push down on bar with foot to pull down both levers down et voila , hands free operation. Get rid of silly serated log holding things & maybe use a bunjee cord around rear of m/c to hold levers open & life's easy. Worked fine for me.

I also have an axe that is half axe, half heavy hammer with nylon type shaft - works better than normal axe. That's what I have - lots of kinetic energy but it just bounces off my logs.. and sets my eyeballs vibrating!

A thinking man! Your idea has legs, or an interpretation of it. Inspiration.
