They probably used an extra large Hyundia santa fe spare wheel, or a wagon wheel I needed to get a nice round top opening and it should work, remeber to cover the wheel in cling film which you might be able to re use in the kitchen later. It will be finished later this week with a nice round wooden top. If you click the picture it gets bigger or put on your specs.

Well, well. Are you lining it with stone as well? As well as not exactly being a roman well. Certainly a well to do well builder.

Well now you have asked I will give you the shorter watered down version. The well is about 15m in depth below the surface the stone work is original and perfect well as far as I can see. The stone work on top was well past it's best and had been patched with grey cement and steel brackets. Well before I started the well I had a coffee and thought well what can I do with this well it's only been like that for years. Well I started with taking the top of the well down to ground level made a couple of tin circles and filled it up with concrete then white cement on top of it. The well will look Weller than before.
