My saga of trying to replace the brakes on mrs. A's car rolls on. About 3 weeks since I started assembling the parts needed. A little bit from France but mostly from Germany. The last thing arrived Monday. A pair of front brake calipers. Look good and exact match to the old ones but....................the box must have been dropped from a great height and one of the bleed screws is bent (and cracked). Just great. The seller wants photographs of the damaged part and the packaging it arrived in and the shipping label on that packaging. Can't do. The packaging went to the tip. I gave it up and figured it would be easy enough to buy another bleed screw. No way. This is France. A handful of French parts websites and most of them are a franchise of AutoDoc who charge €9.95 minimum charge for delivery of a tiny part costing between 85cts and €2. I'm not that stupid. UK is even worse. By the time ebay squeezes you for shipping to France and duty its looking like £15. I could walk into any number of places & motor factors over there and pick up such a simple item. There used to be a couple within easy reach of here but one closed down and the other keep virtually no stock apart from tyres and batteries, everything else is to order. Our friends who come over to their holiday home aren't coming again until Xmas and I had hoped to fix the brakes while it is still relatively dry outside to do the job. As a last resort I can refit the old one but I wanted to do a proper job this time, not just a half ass rebuild.
Is there a generic French term for a motor factor, or parts house? I need to know so I can waste a few more hours with mr. Google.

There is a large breakers yard about 45 minutes away but I was hoping for a new one. I have second hand ones on the car that I wanted to replace. I am renewing the disks, calipers, pads, hoses, and a couple of anti-roll bar links as well. They were pointed out by the CT man at the last test as being a bit floppy.

Do try a breakers .. when I bought a secondhand car from a friend (fortunately a good friend) I knew it would need quite a lot of tlc as she is a complete scatter-brain. The garage I use sourced some headlights and a lock both from a breakers yard and they have been 100% ok for a fraction of the cost of new.

You do not want to fit the old one but do you mean the whole calliper? I may have missed something but if it is an exact replacement doesn’t the old one have a bleed nipple that you could transfer to the new calliper? Can you determine an exact set of dimensions for the part you need? I will attempt to add a link to an Amazon part available on Prime. amzn.eu/d/igVXZlGAssuming this link works and if it suits your needs tell me tonight (Thursday) and I can have it delivered either tomorrow or Saturday. I could bring it to France on Sunday and post it(them, 5) on Monday. A pm with details would do.

2001 Peugeot HDI 90 diesel estate. Since I posted this on several forums I now know the Peugeot part number (442846) and the size I.D. is M10x1. I am now trying to source it armed with this information.

But the part I need is tiny and since I was renewing every component I thought a new one was appropriate. I have found them online priced from 85 cents.

It is rusty but it could be cleaned up.

Sadly, I was burnt out trying to find one myself that didn't want 10 to 15 euros postage and also battling some other online problems and switched off the PC until today (Friday). Your offer is way beyond helpful but I am currently pursuing another solution. Sincere Thanks.

How frustrating Aardvark, we have the reverse problem, we want to update our kitchen in Brittany and would like to source it in the UK where we have time to mull over our decision and arrive with the kitchen flat packed in the car ready to install, I fear this is not possible under the new entry rules, as when I arrived at Caen a week last Sunday and saw a trailer being emptied at the port of building materials and kitchen units. It is a logistical nightmare to get to France, find a kitchen we want have it ordered/designed... and wait for its arrival.
If you want the part delivered to me in the UK, I arrive on the 23/10 and could post to you then. I know you probably will of sorted it by then but the offer is there. Keep smiling and carry on !

Many thanks. It is heartening to find so many people on the forums not only try to offer sound advice but some go a big step further to help. I look forward to being able to return this at some stage.
