Where I live I am surrounded by apple orchards. As technology and methodology changes so does the way the orchards are managed. A few years ago they started using night time blowers to ward off frost. So whish whosh all night. Got used to that. This year they've started using tractor size leaf blowers to knock the leaves off the trees, making picking easier. So a noise like a helicopter drones on all day long. I dread to think of the next innovation.

Doesn't bear thinking about. I hope the energy they are using for these methods doesn't cost them too much.

They've kicked off again at 8am. It's an unbearable noise, God knows how much diesel is being used. They must be breaking the noise regulations.

In Worcestershire we have many apple orchards but I know of one ancient pear orchard in the shadow of the Malvern hills, it is very cold there sometimes, to keep the frost off they burn the prunings from the trees so raise the temperature slightly and the smoke does the rest, really eerie but the old ways are normally the best.

Do you have any neighbours .. if so, what do they think of the noise ? The nearest neighbours are out at work so it doesn't bother them and the other 3 houses are protected by hedging. To be honest it's such a big part of the agricultural economy around here that I wouldn't dream of complaining. It's just bloody annoying.

They used to burn straw bales here but have started using blowers in the last couple of years.
