You can change .. both gaz/elec or just the electric part to octopus as long as you use a minimum of 3000Kwh per year of electricity. Thanks for that. I'll check my EDF bill.

i hope it works out well for you, Sue and others who’ve taken up the offer - I can’t see it not working out well, but after last year, just about anything can happen. It’s always a gamble when deciding which energy company to use. It was pure luck that I took a 2 year fix up to 24/09/23 with Octopus in the UK, which turned out to be an excellent choice due to such awful rises in energy costs last year. It could have been very different, as it was for so many people. I took a 1 year fix with Octopus from September this year, as a few companies offered fixes again, and as I’ve been happy with Octopus for several years it was an easy decision. We don’t use enough electricity in France now to take up this offer with Que Choisir?, but if eligible would have done so as soon as I’d read the details. I applaud Octopus’ push for renewables, and have invested in a renewable energy co-operative with Ripple, in which Octopus are involved in a big way. Johnny D, did you take part in Octopus’ energy-saving sessions last winter? I too have signed up for 2 of the Ripple wind farm projects gigi, the first one comes online early next year, they are installing the turbines now. I can't take advantage of the energy saving sessions yet gigi as I do not have a smart meter, but I know a lot who did and they did save some money. I also have a 1 year fix with them until July 2024
Like I said earlier in the thread, I like Octopus as a company, and I don't think I would say that about any of the other energy companies in this country, hence why I had no hesitation signing up in France.

I was a bit slower than you, Johnny - our plans were to install solar panels on our house over a year ago, but the main company we dealt with (after several hopeless companies) suddenly sprung on us that we needed new roofing felt. Our very dependable roofing man of many years said none of the houses in our road should need roofing felt, and that all the tiles would need removing and it would double the cost of the solar panels, so we decided against solar panels as it made no sense to pay out so much. He did himself out of work, but he’s always straight with people.
At that point I read about renewable energy cooperatives and gladly went with Ripple, though I’m only in the third phase, which is now going to be a solar farm, Derril Water solar farm in Somerset. I discovered afterwards that our SIL has invested in Ripple, due to come on-stream later this year. He also has had an EV for quite a few years - never had a problem driving up to Berkshire and back from Hastings - he charges it at a local hotel if necessary.
Exciting that Kirk Hill wind farm is forging ahead - our SIL has invested in that, too.
Joining in the energy-savings sessions with Octopus was interesting and we made money through responding to their messages with the times to cut back - not a fortune, as we don’t use a vast amount of electricity, but it was good to join in the scheme and it went into Octopus’ charity scheme.

I have never before changed Electricity companies so it is a gamble but I liked what I read about Octopus both here and in the UK so decided to give them a go.

Sue, I’ve changed suppliers quite a number of times in the years since we had a choice, taking guidance from Money-saving expert usually. But once with Octopus I’ve stayed with them, checking that they continued to be the best company for us.
