Your second link gives a detailed explanation of what will happen when the operators kill off the copper system. It seems that by government regulation (?) we will have a guaranteed alternative chosen from a group of three options. Radio, satellite, or 4g mobile. Depending on financial means the government will offer subsidies to help with the increased cost of these alternatives.
This is reassuring. I think the 4g alternative includes a special outdoor aerial feeding an internal box that can be hardwired to a PC. Possibly by that time there will be another box to distribute the internet by wifi around the house.

I’d just like to have a mobile signal. As the walls are too thick we have to go outside to get a mobile signal. This used to be ok but after fibre was set up in our village the mobile signal range decreased drastically. Now, I’m not complaining about the fibre installation as it’s made a huge difference to our lives. These days though many things, including banking, require a sms message with a code sent to our mobile phone. Often, by the time I’ve got a signal the code has expired. To make matters worse we bought a new car where it’s heavily dependent on mobile wifi. To get updates etc we have to now find a town with a decent and importantly stable mobile signal.

Our new fibre network has gone live in our village. However we have (relatively) fantastic ADSL speeds, enough for HD TV, so no need for FO. Yesterday a salesman called to offer us FO. I turned him down. Watch them slowly strangle our speed to force us to switch well before the official end of the copper network. 🙄
