I sent my signed Life Certificate to the Pension Service recorded delivery and asked for confirmation of delivery and am still waiting for this nearly 2 weeks later. Has anyone else experienced such a delay?

Yes, we’re having the same problems with post between the U.K. and france. It doesn’t seem to matter whether or not it’s recorded delivery either which did surprise me. i don’t know which country is responsible for the delay either which doesn’t help.

When I sent a letter AR to HMRC recently, LaPoste tracking stopped the moment it left France. Eventually it did show up though as having been delivered almost 2 weeks later.

Has anyone else experienced such a delay? Apparently you need to go online onto La Poste website to get confirmation of the tracking in the UK.

I did, on a daily basis. I even went to LaPoste and asked the lady there to track my letter and she encountered the exact same dead end.

I just pop it in the post, always have done so - seems a lost cause to use recorded delivery (as a previous poster has indicated). I would hope that the Pension service would notify me if my pension was to be witheld because of non receipt in the timescale, whereupon I would obviously take a different course.

Ah, perhaps not .. here is an excerpt from the email reply I received to my request to IPC asking if they had rec'd my Life Certificate form. I completed and returned my form about 1 month after I received it - their letter took 2 weeks to get here. "I have checked your records and I can confirm that the Life Certificate has been received, and it was processed by our offices on 29/10/2023. Pension payments were reinstated and issued at this time and no further action is required. Please note, payments can take up to 5 working days to clear into your account." Which sounds to me as if our Pensions are automatically cut 16 weeks after they send out their forms and will only be re-instated when a newly signed Life Cert from you is received by them.

I am puzzled by some of the comments on here. For the last couple of years I have used La Poste Recommande service to send documents from Toulouse to DWP and HMRC. Each time I can track the delivery with La Poste until it leaves France. It then automatically transfers over to the Royal Mail online tracking service. When it is delivered I can then see the date and time it was delivered, the name of the person that signed for it and a picture of their signature. The details still remain on La Poste tracking and then show as delivered as well. Given the useless performance of both DWP and HMRC the cost is worth it for peace of mind. Best wishes from a wet Toulouse!

Eventually it did show up though as having been delivered almost 2 weeks later. Same here! 13 days. I did manage to track it on La Poste website. No name of the person who signed for it or their signature though aucamville . Which sounds to me as if our Pensions are automatically cut 16 weeks after they send out their forms and will only be re-instated when a newly signed Life Cert from you is received by them. Yes, the very same day! Unfortunately I cut it a bit fine so I've received the letter saying my pension has been stopped. Odd that it arrived much more quickly by ordinary post than my Life Certificate did by recorded delivery. Sending a message with scan via Pensions Service website. I know this is my fault but as the Pension Service routinely deals with older (often doddery or forgetful) people, surely they could manage to specify a date rather than 16 weeks. 16 weeks seems like forever whereas a date registers in the mind and can be put straight in the diary. Thanks for your help.

Some of the problem is the time it takes for their Life forms to be delivered .. it was over 2 weeks to get to us. So, as you say, a date from IPC might help. My son told us that some postal workers had been on a go slow recently. Daughter was astonished not to receive any mail at all for 10 days which seemed to coincide with the go slow. Then a whole bundle was delivered to them all of a sudden.

Apologies, I did not explain very well how the Tracking System works! You cannot get the UK name and picture of the person signing from the La Poste Tracking System. When your delivery leaves France and arrives in the UK it automatically goes into the Royal Mail Tracking System. If you then go into the Royal Mail Tracking System and enter your Recommande reference number you can track it to delivery and obtain the name and signature picture. Hope this helps!

I don't know how you managed to fathom that! But thank you, it adds weight to be able to say who received it and when.

Has anyone else experienced such a delay? Not experience with the life certificate, but some years ago it was required or recommended that on renewing your passport (just after it ceased to be done at the local embassy and had to be done in Durham) recorded delivery be used. I did as requested and sent the passport recorded delivery with confirmation of receipt. I received the confirmation 3 weeks after I received the new passport.

I received the confirmation 3 weeks after I received the new passport. Incroyable! I still haven't received the printed confirmation slip in my postbox - maybe they don't do it any more - but was reassured by tracking on La Poste website.
