The Portsmouth Spinnaker has had many past problems with its colour scheme, usually football related. Yesterday we passed it in the evening on board a Brittany Ferries vessel and, as always, we admired the tower but the illumination colours were rather interesting. The colours were; red, green ,black and white. I wondered if this combination was in any way related to recent events in the Middle East and also in central London but it may have simply been coincidence. It still looked very welcoming as we returned to UK for the winter.

You can pay to have the tower illuminated in the colours of your choice. It's a popular method to announce the sex of a baby, with friends and family gathered outside the Spice Island pub in Old Portsmouth, the Tower is then lit up in Pink or Blue.

Last time we asked about it while entering the Harbour the locals said they were still paying for the B****** thing. I was one of the locals that voted for that particular design out of a choice of 3.
