Can anyone recommend a portable internet radio that can receive the BBC's output since its streaming format was changed in mid-2023? I'm looking to replace our now-obsolete Roberts Stream 107 with something of a similar size - ideally sub-200€. Many thanks Nutty

Someone, on here or elsewhere, posted of the same problem .. and their solution was - use their Roberts as a speaker after connecting it to their smartphone which can stream BBC radio. If I have remembered that correctly.

That is certainly the solution we have been using since the change. We have a Robert’s Stream 63 which we had used for several years. I had already bought a Bluetooth Tx/Rx device previously for a different application so it was a simple task to plug it into the back of the internet radio and pair it to our phones or iPads. The BBC Sounds app works perfectly from mobile phone to the radio. The only downside is that we need to recharge the extra Bluetooth device every few days. I discovered that the usb socket on the front of the radio does not have an internal power connection and is meant for setting up and testing only. We did not want to buy a new, expensive internet radio. I think your radio has a Bluetooth facility so my little problems should not arise.

Just use the BBC Sounds app. You can use this with any low cost stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity. I have a basic Android tablet connected to to a basic Argos stereo system with Bluetooth that I brought from the UK. All works fine.

We have the Roberts Stream 107 and I can't say I would recommend it to anyone. Disappointing all 'round but it does receive BBC Radio 4 and that's all I want from BBC. LBC for a bit of uncensored comment on the latest Conservative antics and loads of music channels from around the world. Sadly it only works in the same room as the router. I won't be wasting my money on another internet radio.

We use an Amazon Echo connected to the internet and then ask it to play basically any Radio station we like, in the black Friday deals they were starting at £19.99.

That sounds like a great idea if you know the name of the radio station you want - but if you wanted to scroll through say a genre - like British radio comedy - will it do that? And is it portable? As for Alexa - I don't think I want to get into arguing with another female voice.. I'm having enough trouble winning battles with just the one. Nutty

Try a web site called radio garden. It shows the earth, you zoom in to a country, then down to a city, click on a white dot and it plays what ever is there.
