I need some fine steel wool (used in French polishing grade 0000 or finer) to clean some rusty knitting machine needles. Just writing this post on the off chance someone may know what this is called in French. Very specialist I know but worth a try. Emoji for crossed fingers.

I don't know what they call it here but I have seen it in the Bricos. Have a browse around the Leroy Merlin website, etc. You may run across it.

I use a lot of 00000 (5) wire wool, I get it from Amazon at just over a fiver(€) a small pack.

Thank you! What a surprise to have all these responses. I thought I'd be lucky to have one. I use a lot of 00000 (5) wire wool, I get it from Amazon at just over a fiver(€) a small pack. I've ordered this one because it's extra fine. The needles I'm renovating are no longer made so no chance to buy new ones and I have to be extra careful. The tips are ultra delicate so I'm following the advice of an expert to use 0000 or finer. It's going to be a long job! Thanks again.

We use steel wool to kind of lag the pipes in our kitchen where they come through the floor from our basement, we used to always have a mice problem when Autumn and very cold weather as they could squeeze through the holes cut in the floor for pipe access (done by previous owner), someone suggested the idea and it works a treat, they must really hate it as they can't quite get through.
