My company bought a house for 17000 from the tax office, they had a charge over it (see below) for over 198.000 euros care home and hospital fees for one old lady. If I sell within two years even though its had money spent on it if the sales price is over 7/12th of the cost price they can come back and ask for more money from me. The Notaire has to write to the tax office asking if they will write to confirm they will not ask for more money, been waiting weeks for a reply. They have verbelly agreed to do this but still waiting for the letter. I was always told as long as you do some work the price you ask was not an issue, that could have hurt. 198000 was a lot in care fees. Translated into English ref numbers removed An entry to renew a legal mortgage in favour of the DEPARTEMENT DE LA HAUTE-MARNE, as security for the principal sum of one hundred and ninety-eight thousand four hundred and nine euros and ninety cents (198,409.90 eur), entered in the CHAUMONT 1 land registry on 12 July 0, volume 0, no. 0, with effect until 0.

198000 was a lot in care fees. If the UK is anything to go by 198k is not that much. Depending on the level of care required 1k GBP per week is not so unusual if nursing care is required. 700 GBP per week (35k pa) would be for care without nursing assistance. So 198k€ might represent 4-5 years care I doubt French costs would be so wildly different.

My father's care home fees were £1200/week with no special care required. A very nice care home it was!
