We have decided to have a three week holiday in the UK this year, so started looking, we need a ground floor room, or a lift, we need a walk in shower, we need a nice bar and restaurant we need parking near entrance, don't want huge town/city based Pub/Inn/Hotel, easy I would have thought not a chance, Southern England South West, and Wales, all the way up to Cheshire have only found about ten that are suitable, looked at them all up to £250 per night, so not cheap, all because the DW is disabled, I know I don't expect a village pub to build an extension or put a lift in but to swap a bath for a walk in shower is not too much to ask, they will save on water as well, its taken me about three days and hundreds of searches to find what we want, so pray you never become disabled. I need a holiday to recover from all this.

I sympathise with you. Last time I went to UK in October I booked a relatively expensive hotel which turned out to be a pub with very small rooms. The hotel sites do not give 'correct' descriptions of rooms etc.

I’m pleased you found a hotel that fits your requirements - the very good hotel we booked for a stay over Christmas (yes, expensive!) had stairs that weren’t suitable for guests who aren’t as fit as they were or fully mobile - a lovely room, but with a dangerous staircase to their better rooms and the library. We knew there was no lift, but the very hands-on owner and very good staff must have known how difficult the stairs were for some guests. We loved our stay there, but wouldn’t choose the better rooms again.
When you want to book another hotel room, try asking on Tripadvisor - there’s some excellent help on there, we’ve found. A pity we didn’t ask on there for our Christmas break - we’ve stayed at the nearby sister hotel previously, which has a lift, but often used the stairs, particularly going downstairs.

Has spectrum found a suitable hotel? I am not a regular hotel user but looking back over the last few years I can’t remember any that would fit the requirements. We are fairly selective, such as dog friendly, lift to upper floors and convenient car parking and I browse the offerings on Booking.com. The customer reviews throw some extra light on the practical aspects of the hotel. Are you intending to stay in just one place or spreading the holiday over several places? I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing trip.

Yes thankyou Have managed, but was looking on Booking.com & Hotels.com, eight hotels have still not got back to me now a week since, I found out that at least one hotel doesn't have banisters on its staircase!!, a lot says Wheelchair assessable then later on it says all rooms on first floor Its only the second time in 44yrs have we used hotels, we where into caravanning all over Europe and the UK, but with the price of a nice van pushing 50k we have decided to let someone else empty the loo

When I visit mum at her care home I stay at the manor of groves in High Whych, close to Sawbridgeworth in east Hertfordshire. Newish extension has a lift. The larger old rooms in the original building only have stairs so I asked to move to their rooms I could access via the lift. There is a second entrance near the lounge which is easier to use than the main entrance which has a small revolving door. In December the restaurant charged approx £28 for a two course meal and £34 for a three course meal. Rooms are warm and staff are friendly and helpful. There is also a good spa and swimming pool on site. www.manorofgroves.com/Plenty of parking on site. Plenty of restaurants in Sawbridgeworth and surrounding towns.
