I haven't lived in the UK for 15 years so do not consider it correct for me to vote there. I agree, why do people still want to do that? Is it really democratic? But then does it make any difference in the end, see earlier response.

But then does it make any difference in the end, see earlier response. It might well have made a difference in the referendum. And by the way some of us pay tax in the UK, so why shouldn't we have a say? And who knows when someone might return to the UK? I would like a Euro for everyone who has gone back to the UK when stating at one time that they were never going back.

Especially from those who failed to take their democratic rights to vote. * and be certain it will be. The question is when.

I applied again this morning. The only differences I noticed were a question when I was last registered (or approximate year) the need for latest passport details (which could be an expired passport) I think the problem there was with your former council not being on the ball. As with crabtree, I received an acknowledgement and reference number followed just 2 days later by an acknowlegement from my former council saying they would contact me if further information was needed. I hope you get a positive response second time round.

I'm not saying don't vote if you want to.I prefer not to vote when I don't know all the arguements.Living out of the country for such a long time ,in my case, means that I have little or no idea of who will be standing in that constiuancy (sp)how can I vote on those lines.Contary to popular believe you don't vote for a prime minister you vote for your mp. Given the huge amount of highly publicised antics of the Conservative party over their tenure I don't believe anyone needs to live there to make a decision. Any vote for a party other than the Conservatives would be a move in the right decision.

The problem for me is that there maybe a candidate that unless you are there you won't know about.Turfing out the incombrant is all very well but you have to replace them with someone else.As I said earlier you don't vote for a prime minister you vote for a constituancy mp.

And given that mps are largely told what to do by the party whip they really haven't a chance in Hell of improving things if their principles don't align with those higher up the pecking order.

The few anointed ones have robbed most in one way or another. Talking of the anointed ones, it is time to be more vigilant. I have just had a message from a bank that they are changing their terms and conditions. There are about 80 on paragraphs, none of which I like the sound of. One of them reads: ‘ We may decide, at any time and without giving you any reason, to repay to you, or any person authorised by you, the amount due to you in whole or in part on any or on all of your accounts with us together with interest accrued and close your account. Skipton may also close your account if we consider your conduct to be inappropriate, disrespectful or offensive. ‘ what else can I say other than ‘ Jawol mein herr. ‘

now that youve registered to vote .What happens next? Do you have to apply /request a postal vote and how will that be distributed?

now that youve registered to vote .What happens next? Do you have to apply /request a postal vote and how will that be distributed? I believe your application will be confirmed - or maybe not. If confirmed, you then have to apply for a postal vote. They will then send you a voting form once all candidates for an election have been confirmed and the voting forms printed. If you are lucky it will arrive in time for you to make a decision, mark the form and send it back to the returning officer.
There are tales around of what can go wrong, none of which I can confirm:
Forms arriving too late or not at all. A prepaid envelope being supplied that is not valid for use outside of the UK. Returns sent back in a different envelope being rejected. Postal votes being forgotten in the count.

This happened to us many years ago so the following time we chose to nominate someone to vote on our behalf. There's still this option available. Just be sure of who you nominate!
