Hello Sue, I don't transfer very often nowadays, but have used Currencies Direct, Transferwise, HIFX and Caxton in the past. I think at least two of those are no more, though? Perhaps that is why Wise are so popular Transferwise just morphed onto Wise a couple of years ago. I used to use HIFX but found the then Transferwise gave much better rates. HIFX now trades as Xe.com. I was not aware of Caxton before now.

That's interesting, GAO. I didn't know HIFX was still going under another name. Those were just the ones I got spot rates from and yes, HIFX were rarely the best. Possibly the only time was for the (then) massive transfer we did for the barn purchase Caxton had a very similar set up to the current Wise one, with a currency card and free transfers. I think they went bust, but they may have merged with someone else. Did the rate hold for as long as you needed it to?

We’ve used Caxton for quite some time, don’t know how many years, always been happy with them. I don’t know about any merge, unless my memory has more holes in it than I knew, and has had the same name for as long as we’ve used them. I like knowing that the amount offered is the amount I receive, no deductions later.
There do see to have been far more emails in recent months, not that I’ve bothered with them.

No gigi, I don't think they have merged and a quick google shows they still exist under the Caxton identity.

Maybe they just ditched permanent foreign residents, gigi, or those that didn't use them enough? They definitely ditched us, though, and the communications suggested that they were ceasing to trade

I don't think any of us will have trouble spending the UK State pension here, given the current cost of living
