It has been at 1.16 for several days. My pension is due on Friday so there is yet time for it to nosedive.

If it can stay here around 1.17 until the weekend, I will be a very happy bunny.

Edit : Susceptible to immediate change now I have posted this I use Currencies Direct (who bought out The Foremost Group who we used to use) or Horizon Currency. I looked at Wise and found they charged, the two I have posted do not and for larger amounts, say over 10-15,000 Pounds to Euros, they beat Wise and no charges. I am certinly not knocking Wise, for lesser amounts they are a healthy competitor.

For others wishing to transfer Pounds in to Euros you are probably looking around 1,1620 as you would never get the mid market rate unless one is talking in millions

For others wishing to transfer Pounds in to Euros you are probably looking around 1,1620 Sorry if I have confused you omegal. I look up the exchange rate regularly and, you are right, that is the mid-market rate - today it rose to 1.1729 at one point. If I am interested, and have the funds to exchange, then I look up what rate Wise is offering. So I either post the mid-market rate or the Wise rate offered. At this very moment Wise would give me 2333.18€ for £2000 .. their rate 1.17173 minus their charge depending on the amount transferred. Which is an end rate of 1.16659.

It's interesting how Wise seem to be the go-to Company nowadays. When we bought our property here, the advice was to register with 3 or 4 different exchange Companies and ask for spot rates just before transferring. The differences were surprising and no one Co consistently gave the best rate. I have used Wise but find their insistence on trying to get me to open an account, instead of just completing a one-off transfer, very irritating. Given their charges, they're not always the best option, either.

Hello Sue, I don't transfer very often nowadays, but have used Currencies Direct, Transferwise, HIFX and Caxton in the past. I think at least two of those are no more, though? Perhaps that is why Wise are so popular

Currencies Direct are certainly still about, in fact they bought out my go to exchange company, The Foremost Currency Group. Sue in 56, as you know, on larger sums Wise make a substantial charge, which on checking yesterday would have given me less return than Currencies Direct or Horizon (not that one !!!). I so wanted to try Wise but I went with Currencies Direct, money in our bank by midday today, the rate being 1.1636, perhaps for a few bob more I might have been oh so slightly better today but once I have made an exchange I make a point of not checking rates until the next required transfer. We bought our Campsite with a deposit of 10.35 Francs to the Pound, by the time the auction was finally over the Franc had plummeted to something like 8.40 to one pound. Scary time that was.....but all ended well.
