Irony, ajm, irony.
Actually the term should be ‘serve’ as in ‘serve your country’

As a Brit resident in France, which country would I be 'expected' to die for? This question has to be answered before conscription calls upon people to be part of a 'force' which 'fights' another where your friends and relations are. eg France vs UK, France vs Algeria, UK vs India etc

I thought they were pacifists in India whereas the U.K. or Great Britain as it used to be known as, was well known for its gunboat diplomacy.

I’m sure I remember this coming up during the 1st Gulf war as male work colleagues were concerned as they could have been involved but it never happened……

Bit closer to home now , and if Putin waits until Trump takes the USA out of the NATO , then there will be a problem for Europe !

Bit of a pointless question as it's not my country. A condition of being given French nationality is the acceptance of obligation to serve for France if required. They'd have to be pretty desperate to need me As for National Service, I'd love to see it reintroduced in both UK and France. Combined with the classes for civic responsibility that Macron is pushing, it would provide just a glimmer of hope that discipline, self-respect and considerate behaviour will become valued and the norm in future generations. Not to mention providing future generations who know how to cook for themselves and care for themselves.
