Sorry I got consumed with gardening all weekend, not a great deal to add now with everyone else's comments, my install went flawless, was free, he placed the router in the room I wanted on the first floor, couldn't be happier, get 300/300 all the time on speed tests.

My ADSL cable ran below the first floor floorboards. The installer managed to use it to pull the fibre cable through as I wanted the PTO in the same place as the ADSL termination. Our adsl connection came underground into a cupboard in what was the original internal garage - later refitted as a room. Then the connection, like yours elsie, rose up in the cup'd and accessed the void between the floors, then down again to emerge in a hollow 'cloison' where the t socket was placed on an adjacent wall. We kept the previous set-up though I hadn't realised the small junction box would be as noticeable as it is (to my eyes). So our new Livebox is in the kitchen as the previous one was - though not visible.

I am not under contract to Sosh and could cancel at any time so my situation might be different. That was our situation .. Sosh offered us fibre and Orange fitted it. We previously had the 8Mb ADSL variety .. tho in reality it was 6.5Mb on a good day and less than 4Mb when the tourists arrived - fading to nothing for v short periods in the day (it still does that) tho the 300Mb quoted for fibre does work - 280/290Mb on my phone and a good 240Mb on a nearby 2016 laptop. For those small mercies I am grateful and am not going to complain. We got offered a year at 20.99€ pm rising to 30.99€ after that so we stayed with Sosh.

Another question, if I may? Friends have reported that salesmen have called at thier door, saying "if you want fibre, you must sign with us" Bullshit, obviously. Can I assume that, once fibre is available in my village, my supplier (FT/Orange) will contact me with an offer?

Thats what happened with us, as soon as fibre was available for our property, Sosh contacted us, be aware, not all houses are available for fibre at once, ours was one of the last to be ‘connected’ to the system in the village

Apparently SFR are the chosen Fibre provider in our village, which has been available for some time. Free have not been in contact with us.

Friends have reported that salesmen have called at thier door, saying "if you want fibre, you must sign with us" We had that too .. but it was an ebullient Orange rep .. I ignored him and I am pleased to say I am glad I did as the Orange 'offer' was nowhere near as good as that proposed by Sosh a little while later plus Orange wanted to charge 57€ for connecting the Livebox - the technician who came connected up the Livebox and the fixed phone and checked both were working before he tidied up his (small) mess and left.

I was tempted to stay with copper internet/phone (105mb) but our mayor says there is a plan to cancel copper internet in 2027. ??

True Ian .. our technician said that too plus all the remaining copper wire will be collected up by Orange .. tough if you are still using it at the time.
