‘ most people in the UK have never learnt how to cook ‘
Those at the top of the table have turned cooking the books into an art form.

Just how is the UK going to produce more. More and more good agricultural land is sold at huge profit for house building. What land there is is being destroyed by using huge tractors, salination and extreme weather being the norm. Exporting food - the only food that is exported is sea food. Don't tell me - you've got a five year plan based on political theory. Excluding fish and shellfish the UK food exports include beef, pork, cheese as well as fruit and veg. One of the surprising exports though is breakfast cereal and the UK is the 3rd biggest exporter globally. If all of these foodstuffs stayed in the UK and people ate seasonally then it would go a long way to making the country less dependant on imports. As for agriculture, the only way to significantly increase food production would be to eat less meat and turn the extra grazing land over to growing crops.

@t17
I'm no expert on British food but from watching Brit TV most people look like they eat Mexican, Chinese, Spanish and other exotic foods rather than breakfast cereal and beef both of which I enjoy. Banana's and oranges, I can never remember seeing them growing on Scotland but with global warming that day could come.

The UK depends on food imports of 65% of what it consumes. And the source of that figure is?
