I can't believe the amount of scams there are circulating on my Facebook feeds of late. I have reported a fake Lidl site selling discounted electrical goods, 90%+ off retail, on two occasions, only to be told that there is not a problem with the site and it is pukka, absolute bullshit. Leroy Merlin selling a huge bundle of Makita cordless tools, think there were over 20 items plus batteries at 99€, and these little dongle things that slip in the HDMI socket that then allow access to a myriad of pay channels free of charge, evidently they don't work and that is the last you see of your 30€ or any after sales they advertise, Surely Facebook should be taking these ads down and doing something to protect the users or is it a profit inspired scheme.

I don't know if those are ads you are speaking of, but for anyone wanting to get rid of Facebook ads, get the add-on 'Facebook Plus' for your browser, it will also allow to change many Facebook settings. If using Android, use a Facebook clone app, like 'Friendly+' or 'Folio', they both get rid of ads as well as lots more tweaks.

Or just avoid Facebook altogether. Life existed before Facebook.

I am sure I posted a reply but it has gone, I was saying that unfortunately a lot of the groups and forums I belong to are Facebook generated so avoidance is not an option

Because they are Facebook groups and you have to be on it to gain access

It has been said that Facebook groups are a big part of the decline of ordinary forums.

From what I've seen of it it's useful for sharing some good visual gags and jokes but that's about all. Even on a Gardening group, the bitching and arguing soon surface and the illiteracy is thoroughly depressing whether it's French or English. If that's the future, I'm glad I won't be around for much longer

I have about four friends on Facebook I agree sometimes the jokes are funny, I’m being treated to a lot from Star Trek at the moment, harmless but amusing. There are a lot of adverts from dodgy firms, but sometimes the Amazon ones come in useful, when they show something and you didn’t even realise it existed but is useful, I can’t just think of an example at the moment, oh yes it’s just come to me, really thin plastic boxes for keeping cooked meats which otherwise you would have to wrap up or they go dry, I bought them somewhere else once I knew of their existence.

It has been said that Facebook groups are a big part of the decline of ordinary forums. I'm sure this is true. I only recently discovered Facebook groups and have found them very useful but beginning to get annoyed that people don't read previous posts before writing, so lots of repetition, and others who come out with irrelevances. It makes it hard to follow. Forums are much better but of course someone has to pay to host a forum but Facebook is free.

I have used FB to make contact with distant family that I could not have done so by any other practical means. In doing so I have learned a lot. No big deal, but,it keeps me occupied. Trawling through the dross can be tiring though.

Trawling through the dross can be tiring though. Yes, I reconnected with lots of old school friends via it and have met up with some of them. It’s like anything on the internet - make of it what you want and ignore the dodgy stuff….(bit like forums 😆) I’m in Breast cancer groups too which are very supportive and funny sites like ‘dull mens club’. I don’t understand why some shy away from things and then slag them off when they've had no experience of it. 🤷♀️

We, being my wife and I have had a few meet ups with old friends over several years of being on FB. We don't agree to be friends with quite a few every year, that being because they are unknown and are literally friends of friends with no real link to us. Been in contact with plenty of lads through many years of football and golf, good laughs and again met back up witha few. We get plenty of photos of their families and they ask about our family, especially now we have two grandkids. One of the best things is getting back in contact with old friends that have moved to the other side of the World, or are in France, Spain, Belgium, Holland or elsewhere. Yes all in all, it's been great, can't understand why people see it as something bad?

Too many people on it post photos of their meals. Other foolhardy types post too much personal data that enables identity theft. It is also a vehicle for spreading misinformation, terrorist communications, and the pedophiles love it as well.
Apart from that...........it's all good.
