Seeing a thread on budget kitchens, albeit ours was far from budget, we did opt for a tiled worktop, biggest mistake ever. It has never looked good, and we are now thinking to replace. I have seen in the UK, a system where a thin fabrication of what appears to be stone, granite or whatever is tailor made to fit over the top of the existing worktop, and subsequently fitted so as it would go over the existing one. Has anyone any experience or know if it is available here in France, I did a quick google but seemed to come up with some sort of liquid stuff you pour over the existing, can't think that would produce the finish I would expect.

Tiles always look used and tired after a while you could re grout or if they are a standard size Brico depot or bricoman or most similar stores have new laminate ones from 60/130 euros. If you can find someone who is very good with concrete I havs seen work tops that they colour and buff up to look really good. It looks like stone when i'ts finished.

I'd clean it and pour a layer of resin over it, but apparently you don't seem to want to use that solution.

Tiled worktops used to be in all the older houses in Calif. when I was a kid but I never saw them in UK apart from one. The owner's ex was French and he installed it. I recall what a pain they were to clean. Any spillage ended up staining the grout requiring bleach to put right, and you had to be careful..........slapping a cup or plate down a bit too hard would chip it and dragging a heavy pot across it puts your teeth on edge.

I am not averse to using a resin based product but am fearful of the end result as I have no experience whatsoever with using it.
