I am hoping the guarantee is still valid. Amazing that an oven thermometer doesn’t work in the oven.

The guarantee is obviously invalid. We think you must have put it in the oven while the oven was operating or before it had cooled down to room temperature.

PE, my Fluke 61 (infrared) measures temperature from -18 to +275 degrees C, from a distance. I never tried to put it into an oven.... OK, a severe case of total meltdown. What does the manual say about measurement methods? I suppose and hope it's in a safe place outside the oven...

We were repainting the kitchen and stowed a lot of baking tins in the woodstove oven out of the way. the stove was unused for a week and when we finish the paintwork, we fired it up again and unfortunately this thermometer was hidden among the tins in its own tin; we forgot all about the oven full of stuff. A replcement has been ordered like RA’s IR gun, but a cheapo Chinese one in case it gets a meltdown too.

PE, only an accident? It allows you to buy a nice IR thermometer. Look, also very useful in the kitchen. Opening the oven door and then pointing the laser ray: yes, you can. As you may have noticed my name is not Robbie Oliver. I'm more at ease surrounded by eletronic measurement equipment. No accident, premeditation, this link.

PE, sometimes my messages are a bit in the misty forests of understatements: nothing wrong of course with these cheap IR thermometers, but to measure temperatures inside an oven? Yes you can, but there are better dedicated instruments for continuous temperature monitoring. With the in the Amazon offer included thermomètre à viande you already come close to surprise us all with excellent recipes of course.
