My dad lived to turned 100, his advice was to get up from your chair and do something every hour, I follow that advice. During the day, I try to sit down every hour, to catch my breath. In the evening when it is TV time, I get up several times an hour and walk to the other end of the room to have a go on the PC., timed carefully to avoid having to watch the moronic commercials that tell me what a wonderful life I can have if I buy their shite. Cheap cremations are the hot item at the moment. That and feminine hygiene products.

Been a keen long distance walker all my life. Was into power walking before the term existed. Used to power walk from Hove to Newhaven, that's 18 miles return. When we moved from totally corrupt Spain to France. After recovering from the move and heat,we did a 20K walk with our two dogs. Angela was 71 then. She used to go shopping with a set of shopping wheels, 5.5K return journey. At 81 she was fit and then DNA kicked in.
Great walks where we live now, 5 minutes to the GR36 and an old abandoned mine to pass on the way back. I think the French are getting lazy. If it was Germany the recently relayed path would be crowded with walkers, cyclists and runners.
There are so many opportunities to have many very varied walking, cycling holidays in France.

I was intrigued by your reference to GR36 so I looked it up. It is almost 2000km and starts at our ferry port, Caen, and finishes in the Pyrénées. A walkers guide breaks it down into over 100 short walks each lasting about four hours and around 10 to 16km in length. I intend to find out more about these GR walking routes in case one goes near where we live.

We've taken out private health insurance with a company called Vitality, if we up our daily walking to a certain level we get financial rewards such as free coffee and cinema tickets as well as reduced premiums.

if we up our daily walking to a certain level we get financial rewards What proof would they require? You have to wear a fitness watch - a Fibit or such like.
