Left hand side of the balcony first floor had mastic in the crack. It's all moved a bit and you cannot open some of the shutters

We passed that in the center of La Châtre while out for coffee. I buy houses with no roof's and minor demolishing with no neighbours incase it goes wrong. That property needs some serious work. They did try and fill the crack with mastic. 😀

I will have a look at it early in April. I also noticed that just down the street to the left is a CCF sign: our new bank in place of HSBC. The bank is not visible but surely it is not the old bank building which was in good order and in the better part of town.

No idea if it was a bank, it looks like a house. It's just down from the square that has the big cafe. You have the old Gendarmerie on your right and the banks it's just off that road. You walk down past the cafe there is a bakery and restaurant opposite the building is just down that street. It's easy to spot😀

Found it. Corner of rue Emile Accolas and rue Basse du Mouhet. CCF is at the other end of the block.
La Chatre looks quite nice.

Did you visit the town or check it out on Google Maps? You are right, it is a very nice town with all the essentials regarding a weekly market, several supermarkets, lots of diy/builders stores and free car parking. There are a few notable bits of ancient architecture an historical links. There are numerous references to George Sands and Chopin because they lived together in the nearby village of Nohant and there is a George Sands museum in the old prison tower. Evidence of the Roman fortified town is sparse. We like it but it is not a tourist attraction.

Did the building look better on Google earth or did it still have the wooden beams bolted onto the walls. It's a nice small place with little crime.
