Caesarodunum ,according to my wife ,is Tours (37) and Lugdunum might be Lyon. Your wife is correct about Tours and you are also correct with Lyon. We have friends there (and also Villeurbanne)and when we have visited Lyon, the way the locals pronounce it is very naasal and strong. |

Spot on Loiseau, yes it is Bath,means "the waters of Sulis" in Latin. Sulis was the name of the Celtic goddess of the hot springs, and the Roman settlers who arrived in Bath in the 1st century AD identified her with their own goddess, Minerva. |

Eboracum is York - I seem to remember that the Archbishop of York signs his name as Ebor. Verulamium is St Albans Correct on both gigi, I wonder if the Tote Ebor horse race at York is associated ? |

The village in Norfolk in which I lived for many years is called Burgh Castle. It has a Roman fort which used to serve as the port for the Saxons and Romans when Great Yarmouth was a mere sandbank.
The Roman name was Garianonnum.

Thanks, Norfolk. I know several others as we have visited many places while leading students (my wife’s and sometimes mine) and also for our interest in archaeology. One place not on your list is Calleva Atrebatum. Your castle has very fine walls so I feel a trip to Norfolk calling.

One place not on your list is Calleva Atrebatum. Your castle has very fine walls so I feel a trip to Norfolk calling. Er indoors and I were married in the nearby 11th, 13th and 15th C . The walls and site are worth a visit. We used to play on top of the walls when we first moved there in the 60s. Caister castle on the other side of the water is pretty good too if you’re in the area. The Tollgate museum in Gt Y is an interesting place and definitely the only thing worth visiting in the run-down town. |

Oops, forgot to mention the Time and Tide museum housed in some old herring smokehouses. A really interesting look into how the town prospered with the fishing, tourist and oil and gas exploration industries.
