Thanks for the suggestion. I have downloaded it but I then read the following:
"If you have already installed Brave™ from the original setup, move the following files :
%APPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\* to data Then run brave-portable.exe and remove Brave™ from your computer."
There are no instructions of how to locate this file in order to move it.
Also, since posting my trouble using Brave with this forum, I have found it also does it elsewhere. I was on an audio forum last night and it wouldn't open certain threads but OK on others. Brave has become unreliable. I am also concerned that my long list of bookmarks in Brave will be lost when I uninstall it. There seems to be no way to export the list as with other browsers.

It should be in C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser
You can export your bookmarks.
From the Brave menu choose Bookmarks manager, then in the top right click the 3 dots just below the magnifying glass, then export bookmarks.

Many thanks amigo. I found the bookmarks manager previously but because I have the Dark Mode on screen I didn't notice the three little dots. So that much is now sorted.
I also found the Brave entry in the C:\Users\file but nowhere could I find the exact string I was looking for, or indeed, the place I was supposed to move it to named data. Not to worry. I can always use Firefox or one or two others to log in to this forum.

Like Aardvark I still use win 7 on both my laptop and desktop, likewise I am also aware that support has ended. But I have a colour laser printer and a flat bed scanner that don't work on win10 but works on win7. If you want to buy me replacement hardware that works on 10 I will update but until then I am staying where I am. Why do they muck around with drivers etc when new operation systems arrive. No doubt this will happen again when win11 gets going. I have a desktop in France that ran XP until it died a year ago.

If you scratch the surface on any tech forum you will find a lot of people are sick and fed up with Microsoft's continuing abuse of Windows users. Many times I read about people who have bought a PC running W10 asking how to wipe it and "downgrade" back to W7. Microsoft brings out new OS versions making the lives of ordinary users more difficult. They entice users with promises of wonderful new features and improvements, that nobody actually wants or needs. In reality the improvements include loss of user control. Increased telemetry to allow subtle and not so subtle spying of a user's interactions on their own computer. Unless you install a system of encryption you don't stand a chance of keeping your files, or emails private from the prying eyes of Microsoft, (and the eyes of those that Microsoft share your data with). Those who initially ignore the enticements are then annoyed by constant popups that are difficult or impossible to kill off permanently. Because the later versions of Windows are so complex they require more powerful computers to deal with them forcing users of older equipment to replace or upgrade them (£££) or add them to the increasing mountains of E-waste. Once the user surrenders to this bullying they "enjoy" the benefits of the "new user experience" and look forward to continual patches and bug fixes because, as always, the Microsoft product is released before it is fit for purpose. Some of their patches turn out to be faulty and have to have further patches to repair the damage and restore the functionality of users' computers.
I can only guess how hard this hits business users where this waste of time costs big money.

With all due respect to you guys, Windows upgrades/updates (if you have a previously registered Windows system) are free.
Almost all of the newer OS are backwards compatible with things like printers and scanners.
I am on Windows 11 (having upgraded Windows 7, to 8 to 10 and then 11), and my old printers and scanner work fine.
In my opinion a free upgrade is always worth it.

Crabtree. I have tried to make my laser printer work with the wifes win10 laptop, it said its not supported. I also have a B/W laser that we keep in France that doesn't work with win 10 either. I have no problem upgrading to win 10 but am not prepared to chuck out good working hardware. Anyway won't be able to use win 11 as we don't have the bit of hardware in our computers that win11 require and there is no way I am going to waste more money on another computer.

In my opinion an upgrade from Microsoft is only free because it somehow benefits Microsoft. It rarely offers things that the average user actually wants. It is a highly documented fact that almost every Windows upgrade came with problems that upset large numbers of its users. The continual "updates" and patches that often cause more problems illustrates my claim that Microsoft is not achieving properly backwards compatibility. A few years ago the French government began backing off from Microsoft products in favour of Apple and even Linux based systems, and more recently banned Office 365 outright due to privacy risks. The German "Government has given the go-ahead for the first step towards complete digital sovereignty in the country, with further steps to follow." The decision comes a month after Europe's data protection watchdog the European Protection Supervisor (EDPS) concluded that the European Commission's use of Microsoft 365 infringed several EU data provisions covering the transfer of personal data outside the EU/EAA.
People may think Microsoft is the greatest thing since sliced bread but it doesn't take too much research to find that other people are quite dissatisfied with the constant changes and unwanted pressure to upgrade.

A while back I gave a Linux based operating system a go just couldn't get on with it and had to return to windows. Maybe its because I am not a teenager and couldn't get my head around it, even registered on one of their help forums it seemed all the posters who tried to help me were people who had devised the systems and obviously knew a lot more then I did and the speak was some kind of a foreign language to me ( like French) some of the things I was told to do/press didn't appear on my system.
Maybe if the Linux guys made it easier to use for idiot like myself it could give Microsoft a real run for its money.

I have to log in every couple of times, it seems, although it isn’t any great bother, nothing to type, just hit the button with my finger when told to. This is very recent, only started a very few weeks ago. I can’t add any technical details, other than I use my ipad.

I can’t add any technical details, other than I use my ipad. All of a sudden, for no apparent reason, I couldn't access a site I use every day .. I cleared the cookies and site data for the site and straight away I gained access.
