Nice colour but needed to come off. The beam was perfect after it was removed no visabile damage. People were living in this house up to a few months ago, squatting but thats still living there with that.

The dreaded merule or serpula lacrymans. dry rot to you and me. It has spored ( the red colour). Treatment is a disaster. remove all wood and plaster up to a meter radius. Spray with antimerule (5ltr bidon about €80) then use a flame thrower at the brickwork and floor under the mould where the spores have fallen, then pray it won’t come back. I AM NOT JOKING. this is experience talking.

Just to add.. For good measure, I drilled into the walls and filled with antimerule solution to ensure the fungi root fibres were all treated as well. I had to re-beam and re-plank my 30m2 salon floor thanks to this pest.

Thanks PA, it's a house we are buying but have the keys and permission to do what we want there just now. I cleaned the wood yesterday and sprayed the wood. It has a ridge tile missing on the roof and a lot of wet clothes in the attic above. Will go back on Monday. The beams and oak floor felt and looked perfect.
But obviously needs more work.
