I bought a 2017 Renault master for 9500. One owner from new he paid 41000 for it in 2017 Two months ago at chez Renault, new turbo, erg and all the pipes 2700 euros which included a 270 euro charge for the diagnostic of the failed turbo. A new cat, windscreen and 230 euro wing mirror. 500 for two tyres my old master had four tyres for less than that, ying yang or something like that but they still worked. He says to me as I was going off that the local Renault garage knows the van as they have done all the work from when he bought it. Good to know, I will not be going there.

I hesitate to write this (smthg will go wrong) but I can't resist .. My Clio (Sept 2001) had been a tad neglected when I bought her for 400€ 7 years ago. It cost me the best part of 3000€ to get her reregistered (from the UK) and sorted out but I had an excellent garage who didn't mind spending time (and money) getting her in good nick again. Sadly said garage eventually faded due to Covid .. nobody hereabouts was going anywhere much - but since then I have found a nearly as good replacement garage in a small town not far away. They are happy to cherish oldies and goodies. Go to a real Renault garage - you must be joking

We have been using our local Renault garage for about 24 years. OK they may not be the cheapest but the personal service we get is very good. They let me put a R4 on the forecourt for sale while we were in UK. They took photos of it and put it on leboncoin and on our return they had sold it at our asking price and gave me the cheque. There is an independent garage but his yard and the lane are full of cars - god knows how long you would have to wait to get your car back after service.

I have too say ajm that our local Renault concession has only v expensive Renault cars on sale and available for the 3 year contract where you pay only a few hundred a month and have access to a high end SUV type car .. They are not interested in old bangers and their needs at all.

Our local Renault garage (I drive a Renault) are rip off merchants. After I discovered that I took my car to our much more reasonable and reliable Citroën garage and haven't looked back. It recently changed owners but the new guys are just as good as the previous owner.

‘Everyone loses money on a new vehicle.’
That depends upon who one is, and, how one thinks about it.

We bought a brand new top of the range Nissan Qashqai +2 online in 2013 from a French importer for 26000 euros, we sold it last year for 11000 on Leboncoin, a 15K loss spread over ten years doesn't seem too bad.

€15k is nearly 2x more than I have paid for any car in my entire life! We tend to keep our vehicles for a long time so don't mind shelling out for a new/newish car.

€15k is nearly 2x more than I have paid for any car in my entire life! That's a sad story, we could have crowd funded on the forum to have bought you a new Dacia 😆 One of your MGs must have been worth 15k
