 If you click the picture it enlarges the photograph, that's a big word for me and looks like no spelling mistakes so far. This house has some termite damage in the roof and an internal door. It's in dep 19 and very cheap, we view it on Friday. |

Never.
I'm a great believer in keeping things as risk free as possible especially when it comes to buying property so would run a mile from that house.

It's in dep 19 and very cheap It looks interesting .. tho does that opening on the left belong to the house or is that next door ? If the house has a suspicion of termite then it needs to be cheap. |

It has out buildings everything in the picture is with it.
She does not want it but still going to view.

Our first house in France was riddled with termite and I had zero experience of anything back then. The notaire asked the agent if he had explained what termite is he said yes it's like woodworm which put my mind at rest.😄 It's a little more serious but if it's not everywhere it's a possibility. |

I thought 19 was a bit too North for termites, maybe they are Correze cockroaches.

We did. When we bought our old house, the diagnostic mentioned about termites. Our England based french law specialist we were using at the time was horrified. We had an argument about the wording, I pointed out that it implied evidence of previous termite infestation not current. She wouldn't have any of it so I flew back to France to meet the diagnostiquer and talk it through with him. There was plenty of wood where termites had been, however the wood had all been treated by the most reputable local company. It was mainly evidenced in door frames. All the main beams were sound ( I know, I tried driving a screwdriver into them, I couldn't). We went ahead with the purchase. 16 years later when we sold it having replaced all the damaged wood, when the same diagnostiquer came to do his report, termites didn't even get a mention.
So be wary, but understand the problem.

Termites have been found as far north as South Devon! However the Loire seems to be acting as a bit of a barrier in France. Anywhere south of that is at least at risk, although increased elevation also reduces the risks.

Yes and no, will get an expert to give a better survey to make sure it's not too bad but would treat the timber myself. I have looked online and it looks like it costs around 1200 a room to treat. The product needed is 99 for 20 litres, if I buy I would just remove the damage wood and spray the building. You could probably buy this place for less than the cost of the land. It looks like it has eight rooms. |

Termites and merules, this house has both. Our last house had merules but they're not a worry like termites. Will you post more photos once you've returned to the house? |
