Not sure that the industrial town and rail hub of Thionville quite counts as rural but there you are.

My English is not always perfect, I know the area where the shooting took place was not rural France and hope I did not mislead or cause everyone else in the countryside to panic. Living in the countryside you are more likely to be shot by flippin hunters than drug dealers.

We used to live next door to an Al-Qaeda cell near Artigat. Not much danger of us being a target. Hunters were another matter. a neighbour said he dropped a cigarette. I think it more likely that he was trying to increase the grazing for his sheep. He nearly destroyed our woodland in the process. The pompiers put the fire out; - the second time that they attended the blaze.
When we moved we stayed in a house, rural, a neighbour who was nothing to do with the hunting party was killed by a stray round fired by a hunter who was several hundred metres away at the time.
