We did a toilet under the wooden staircase in the lounge come kitchen with no window or ventilation other than some drilled holes at the bottom of the door. It had a door! We had one before where the toilet just had a curtain around it in the lounge. We did move in there but moved the toilet.

When I bought this house (years ago) there was just one toilet behind a screen on the landing , connected to the wrong end of the septic tank , worked very well , so long as the house was just used in the holidays, but permanent use soon produced a problem !
