The saga continues . It started in March with a Romanian sales lady telling me that it would be easy to connect us !
Of course it wasn't , we don't have poles , our cable from the village is one I put in myself when the underground cable failed and I got fed up with the discussion about it not belonging to Orange. So then a technician came , " you need poles" , yes , so he marked it out. The new Box arrived with many an e-mail from Orange and Le Poste. A week later a truck arrived , two nice men who put in the poles, " you need elagage" A week later a wireman arrived, " ah, you need elagage , we don't do that" A devis demanded from a tree man for what would be an afternoons work, which I found a little expensive, so I decided to do it myself . Not being able to work for 8 weeks after the operation and then the temperature going to 35 degrees pushed the work forward. Email from Orange , " you have cancelled the Fibre contract , so return the Box ".
Phone call to Orange , no , I am doing the elagage. " ok , keep the Box" Email from Orange , " send the Box back , last demand before we charge you" Phone call to Orange ,I am doing the elagage , " ok, but send the Box back" Box returned. Finished the elagage, phoned Orange " we will send a technician next week" , with a rendez-vous made for 14:00 last Monday. Monday arrives , no technician, phoned Orange , explained to the first and second lady that the technician hadn't arrived , second lady tells me that there was no rendez-vous, then puts me into contact with a gentleman to make a new one ( one hour on the phone) . This is Orange in Casablanca, we start again. New Box arrives with fanfares from Orange ( 6 mails and 2 phone messages) and La Poste ( 3 mails)
We expect the technician tomorrow between 12:30 and 14:30 ( don't these people eat? )
Have already received 2 mails saying he is coming ! Bet he says " there are no clips on the poles , you need clips "
We will see?

You need a sense of humour to survive in France.

I see it as a challenge , we will get there! Received a letter from Orange today with a completly fictitious address tacked onto our simple one line address, including Batiment and Etage numbers, plus the cadaster number. Probably the guy in Casablanca not able to think that anyone could live in a house with just a 1 in front of the village name and postcode!

Have a continuing (and expensive - paying 28€ monthly for a second line that I don't want and didn't request))saga with SFR. It's exhausting. I was thinking of going back to Orange once it's all sorted for the superior customer service. Maybe not. An analogue life beckons. Good luck @ cernunnos !

I think I will take up prophecy ! " there are no clips on the poles , you need clips " said the black man. "I will call you when I can organise it , to make a new rendez-vous." Lets hope that it is not too long a wait , otherwise they will be wanting their box back.

The problem is that Orange, along with others, use subcontractors who are not in communication with each other in any meaningful way. You certainly are a patient man. How about using a mobile contract and linking your computer that way. Or do you want the TV element as well?

Not quite the end of the saga ! The young man after telling me that he needed a nacelle because he couldn't put the clips onto the glassfibre posts without it , was told by his boss to stop flicking about and get on with the job, attach the cable with tiewraps and they would send a technician later when the nacelle was available to put the clips and cable in place, he was not happy and quite vocal about it. So , seeing as he was on his own and had too connect 300m cable to posts then pull another 100 m through a gaine to the house before even entering the house with the cable , I found myself subcontracting to Oranges subcontractor for a few hours at the end of the afternoon. We got it done and connected , he left in the dark at 19:00 hours after me pulling his van out of a hole next to the communal road! He told me to contact Orange this morning to complain about the tiewraps ( which I have done)but falsified my signature on his sign off sheet to say all was done properly! The connection is great ,my mate ( immigrants son ) the technician, agreed that Orange was messing with the ADSL signal to get people to change to fibre We are happily waiting for the next tech with nacelle.

Lost for words apart from Congratulations. It appears you have done more than many others would have done to get connected.

I had a friends that I used to write to in the days before the invention of the www. I sent letters to them bearing just their family name, village & postcode. Depending on where the letters were posted from, most seemed to arrive without any trouble.

I battled for months with Orange trying to get a phone line installed in my old place. Their computer didn't recognise my address. I sent them scans of my EDF contract, cadastral plan indicating the plot, photo of their pole and its number that was 4 metres from my front door. Non! I had a French friend fighting my case and even he was amazed at how difficult Orange was making it. In the end they asked if I would give them the phone number of my nearest neighbour. His house was behind a high wall and gate and I hadn't yet laid eyes on him but luckily I found "his" address in the phone book and submitted that. When RDV day arrived I kept watch, and managed to stop the crew from trying to install another line to monsieur neighbour. Directed them to my place and the job was done. From that day forward, my factures were delivered to another cottage on the opposite side of the village (with a totally different address). I wouldn't have known if it wasn't for an exceptionally intelligent postie who noticed my name on the envelope. I eventually discovered the cottage was a holiday home owned by British. I never got my real address on to the Orange computer but the postie always delivered the bill to me. I often wonder how the owners got on after I moved away and the bills were being delivered to them. They must have wondered why they were getting a bill.

I had the same problem a few years back , Orange ( or in fact Scopelec their contractor) refused to believe that we had an underground line , that had now stopped working , so after a couple of months of tooing and frooing , I bought 300m telephone cable online and reconnected our house myself, running the cable along the top of our sheepfencing .
