In France last week there were convictions for hate posts made on Twitter after the authors were identified and prosecuted. If the English authorities have the means, the same thing should happen for racial abuse online. Will it happen?

It’s more than time that our government took the steps that would lead to prosecution of those creatures who racially abuse others. It's also past time that social media platforms took action much more quickly to remove such sick posts and ban the posters.

What makes me laugh is that Marcus Rashford has done more for the English young not to have to worry about pushing a a ball in the wrong direction, and should not have to suffer cyber abuse.
Nothing will happen. It never does. Oh, ok, they might have an enquiry and waste some money over it, but no one will be publicly flogged.

Nothing will happen. It never does. Oh, ok, they might have an enquiry and waste some money over it, but no one will be publicly flogged. And for that apathetic reason, it won't change. However, if anybody, perhaps several anybodies, are identified and prosecuted and publicly denounced, the wind will well and truly be put up the rest and maybe, only maybe, they'll think twice before cravenly posting and clicking the submit button. I sincerely doubt it, though; prosecutions for rapes and murders don't stop rapes and murders from happening.

My heart went out to Southgate and his young team last night. The media and the hooligans not so much. Don't get me wrong, I was behind Italy all the way but it's difficult to see such young players so upset and not feel something. I think the three players who missed the penalties did their country a great service despite the unfortunate consequence. They have highlighted what a racist cesspit much of England has become in the past half dozen years and how racism has been normalised by those at the top. I'm not pinning racism solely on England. It exists everywhere but where it does exist, the racists are emboldened by the same politics we see in the UK government right now.
