Just been on the link, the picture says grass snakes are harmless, but I think the picture is of a viper, what us brits call an adder, as said in the article the French have an in built hatred of snakes.

Illegal to kill a snake? Who's going to know unless you are silly enough to post a video on a forum or Fartbook?

Why would anyone want to kill a snake?
A need to kill it if it was trying to kill you or it was hurt and you were putting it out of its misery is one thing, but I just don't get this human trait of killing an animal, reptile etc. because you don't like it.

I came across this attitude in otherwise dear French friends. Toads, salamanders, snakes..all killed on sight. 'Why?' I asked. 'Because they're poisonous/ugly/dangerous' was the reply. They know better now :-)

The French are like big girls' blouses when it comes to snakes. Running around screaming and killing them on sight. We have spotted two vipers recently in our garden. Iam wary because we have cats but kill them? Never. We are going to try a snake repellant but since we have been very active in the garden they may have moved on.
